Residency: Neuendorf House, Mallorca, Spain

Commissioned by the German art dealer and Artnet founder Hans Neuendorf and his wife Caroline in the mid-1980s, the Neuendorf House has served as a meeting place for artists, dealers, collectors, family, and friends for more than thirty years. Neuendorf represented and was instrumental in the development and present artistic legacy of renowned artists including Georg Baselitz, Lucio Fontana, David Hockney, Francis Picabia, Cy Twombly, and others. Guests to the house, especially artists, have long found comfort and inspiration in the regenerative environment of the house and the island of Mallorca, known for its picturesque beaches and scenic coastline.

The residency aims to formally provide artists with what it has offered to guests and visitors for three decades: a distraction-free environment to contemplate the unique combination of minimalist architecture and Mediterranean land and seascape in order to draw inspiration for their work. The artist-in-residence program invites 1-3 visual artists each year to live and work at the Neuendorf House for one to two months. The program, which focuses on painting and sculpture, will provide travel, accommodation, studio space and materials, and means of transport around the island.

The artist-in-residence is invited to live in the main villa, which has 600m2 of interior space, 5 bedrooms, 2 swimming pools, a tennis court, and 30-acres of secluded land surrounding it. An adjacent, newly renovated 137 sq. m. dedicated studio space will be provided for the artists to work in. The Residency is open to applications, with a selection committee deciding which applicants will be able to take part each year.
